RPG-magic von RayuTen (a collection of one-shots) ================================================================================ Kapitel 1: ----------- Quiet and peaceful, the little village sank into the nights soothing embrace. Welcoming streets and charming old houses framed the lovely little harbor, filled with boats of all shapes and sizes. So full of life and laughter underneath the sun, yet so calm and lonely while kissed by the full moon. Only the oceans salty breeze still strayed around the villager’s dwellings, playing around windows and rattling wooden shutters. No more light passed the thin glass, no more noise and commotion filled the streets. During the day there would be tourists, browsing and sightseeing, filling the world with their color and variety. But at night few people remained, just a hand full a villagers that had taken up permanent residence in this otherwise lonely place, their lives so filled and yet so untouched by all the passing outsiders. Their sleep was restful tonight after an eventful day, just as it had always been. Such sweet serenity, but yet so frail. One little girl caught her eye, just in passing at first, but once her mind had lingered she laid claim upon the poor young soul. Such a sweet little thing how it lay deep in slumber. Blond curls spread out far around a chubby face, covered in so many protecting layers of wool and linen that barely more than the snub little nose remained exposed. Now the air had chilled enough to let any soul daring enough to leave the warms of their dwellings feel its freezing bite, but the day had been warm and made the little room heat up almost unbearably. The girl, still prone to the strong weariness of her tender age had retired early and her window remained but slightly ajar. Yet it seemed enough to let the cold creep inside. Her slumber was peaceful, filled with sweet and happy dreams of the day’s adventures, both real and imagined. But even now the first signs spoke of her rising unease; a slight furrowing of her brows, a little twitch in her small fingers gripping the blanket more closely. The silence had turned portentous, the cold seemed to freeze her very soul. More than just wind wormed its way thru the gap of her open window, as Agyl stepped towards the glass. She could be like the wind, a wandering shadow invisible to any who would take the bother of even glimpsing outside at this time of night. But tonight she would be herself. No flames, no dancing shadows, she would appear as no more than a black mare to the naked eye. An unusual sight, but one easily passed off as one of the nearby stables runaways, even if there was anyone to see her. Nothing to raise suspicion after all, even if the wind could not be caught and neither could she. There would be no second glances, no raised eyebrows and questioning thoughts. Not tonight and never again for as long as she haunted humanity. Her eyes remained fixed at the sleeping form in front of her. Agyl could be both wind and shadow, storm and night, but to this girl she would be the world. No barriers would remained between them, no walls could lock her out, no amount of blankets could fend off her cold. The child’s fingers curled up harder while a shaky breath left her mouth, turning white from chill in front of her face. A lone foot had wormed its way out of the protective cocoon but the air made it twitch. Yes, tonight Agyl would be everything; both life and death, salvation and ruin. There would be no more sweet dreams, for a nightmare had come. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In memory of Agyl from ‘Dimension of the Shadow’.
