He was in a severe car accident when he was 4 which injured his hip, leaving him no longer able to walk without walking aids. He also got hit in the head, his schizophrenia was triggered, and he developed strange behaviors, such as talking through his Iwatobi-chan doll “Tobi” that Haru made him. This creeps a lot of people out, even some of his family members, but he’s actually very sweet and harmless…unless Taki brings a new girl home, which he doesn’t like at all, scaring them however he deems fit. Haruko can’t be left alone for too long due to his mental and physical condition, so Taki took on the role of his caretaker. They had always been close, even before, but because of these circumstances they developed a codependency, alongside deeper feelings. Haruko really likes Mizuki, but Iori not so much because he’s not nice to Taki. He’s a bit scared of Mako because of her chest, and gets along great with his twins Haruka & Haruhi. Despite being very smart and programming & scripting for fun, Haruko decided not to got to high school and instead take on an apprenticeship to become a costume designer and tailor. He did this so that he could move in with Taki, but also because he always liked sewing and is gifted in this field as well. Later on, he gets a job at the local theater where he gets to know Yuki, a colleague of his, who’s very nice to him and befriends him, despite him being a bit different. She’s his first friend outside his family. With the help of therapy, Haruko learned to better cope with his mental disabilities, and the schizophrenia gets better over time. This was important to him, because he wanted to be able to provide caring for Taki as well when he’s troubled.
